SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ)- Ice fishermen are enjoying their final days on the ice.
On the waters of Shawano Lake, ice fishermen holding on to hopes that season will last a little longer.
“We haven’t had fishing in March in three years.”
Cory Kuhn of Kuhn’s Bait and Tackle in Shawano tells Fox 11 that there is still ice to fish on.
“There is a lot of ice yet, about 18 to 20 inches yet, but the shorelines are starting to go away a little bit.”
Ice fishermen realize that can change fast, and their days of ice fishing this year are numbered.
“I think it is probably going to be my last time, but we will see what happens with the weather,” said John Hoffman of De Pere.
Even though open water fishing is around the corner, not everyone is looking forward to that, so the longer ice fishing goes, the better.
“I don’t do much fishing during the summer, but I live for ice fishing,” said Mike DeBroux, Gresham.
For now it may just be smaller fish being caught, but it’s still a day on the ice.
