GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ)- Winter Moratorium For heating season ends next week and for some, that means its time to make some payments.
Matt Cullen of Wisconsin Public Service says those who have not made utility payments since November are the most likely to be served a disconnection notice, but a little communication goes a long way.
“Our staff will do all they can to work with people and a payment plan.”
Cullen says the best thing to do if you owe back payments is to call and set up that payment plan.
He says it is also worth checking into state’s Assistance Program to see if you are eligible.
This time of year also brings out the scams. Cullen says if you receive one of these scam calls asking for money, there are things to look for.
“They will most likely threaten you and say that disconnection will happen within minutues or hours if you don’t pay. We don’t work that way. We always send out multiple notices before a disconnection.”
Cullen says they may also ask you to go get a card and put money on it to pay right away, but too is not how WPS actually operates.
Cullen says if you do get one of these calls, hanging up and calling the utility company to verify is the best way to go.
