OMRO, WI (WTAQ) – National Guard soldiers are scheduled to be out in the neighborhoods of Omro next month as part of a training exercise.
The National Guard says soldiers will be going door-to-door on May 16 as part of the Dark Sky exercise.
Soldiers will be knocking on doors, speaking with residents to make sure they’re safe and passing out emergency preparedness information.
Scheduled for May 15-17, the Dark Sky exercise simulates a long-term power outage.
The exercise covers Brown, Calumet, Dane, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Outagamie and Winnebago counties.
“The city of Omro is pleased to be partnering with Winnebago County and the State of Wisconsin to exercise our ability to incorporate mutual aid resources into local disaster operations” Linda Kutchenriter, Omro city administrator, said in a news release.
“This opportunity will help our first responders, as well as those around the state, learn how to better coordinate and communicate with the Wisconsin National Guard, American Red Cross, and other partners to conduct critical public outreach during these crisis periods.”
