(WNFL) – The Milwaukee Brewers went 10 innings to defeat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 Monday at American Family Field in Milwaukee.
Victor Caratini who had struck out in his four previous at-bats belted a 3-run home run off Cubs reliever Scott Effross to give Milwaukee the win.
Brewers manager Craig Counsell talked about Caratini’s hit.
In the wild finish to the game, perhaps overlooked was the quality start turned in by the Brewers Eric Lauer. Lauer went 6 innings and allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9.
Not a bad outing after what was a rough June, according to Lauer.
Counsell said that he saw Cubs batters miss a lot of Lauer’s pitches.
The Brewers and Cubs will meet in the second game of the series tonight at 7:10 p.m.
