GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Water mains within Green Bay will soon be getting a workout.
Starting Monday the Green Bay Water Utility will begin flushing water mains within in the city.
Engineering services manager, Brian Powell, explains how the Unidirectional Flushing Program works.
“What you do is shut off valves and you force the water in one direction.”
This process typically takes about 23 minutes.
Crews will begin near the intersection of Quincy and Emilie Streets and move systematically throughout the city’s distribution system.
Powell says most residents within the servicing areas might notice a brief loss in water pressure and could experience a temporary discoloration of the water.
He does have a couple of recommendations.
“If it’s going past their house that they not shower or wash clothes, that kind of thing, during the 20 some minutes,” Powell said.
The flushing process, which will continue through October, will enhance overall water quality, better water pressure, more efficient water flow, and improved operations for the water utility.
Green Bay Water Utility will post maps on their website of where and when the flushing will take place.
