APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Local musicians in downtown Appleton are once again able to showcase their talents for an entire week.
The 10th annual Street Music Week hosted by Heid Music returned to the area and kicked off Monday.
The annual celebration brings all musicians together, some with years of experience, others just starting out.
“I’ve been playing trumpet for about a year now,” said first-time Street Music Week musician Kyson Dreier.
This, to help raise money for those in need.
“The concept is you’re going to sing for someone else’s supper,” Liz Wollenberg, VP of Northeast Wisconsin at Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin said. “They’re going to play music, we hope to engage the community, make some donations to purchase some meals for families facing hunger.”
“I found out that we were doing this, so I just started to practice a lot, and I came, and I gave it my all,” Dreier said.
For an hour, musicians were able to grab orange buckets and their instruments, head out and play, all for a good cause.
Throughout the week, musicians of all skill levels can pick up an orange bucket from Heid Music from noon to 1 p.m., post up on College Avenue and play for donations benefiting the state’s largest local food bank – Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
Wallenberg tells FOX 11, visitors can make a huge difference with just a $1 donation.
“One dollar equals four meals, so you know that your dollar donating to us is going to go pretty far to help families facing hunger.”
Dreier tells FOX 11, he was drawn to the cause.
“I kinda know how it would feel, because my sister has a disease called TSC, and I know how we help her a lot, so I just wanted to help someone else, as well.”
On Thursday, there will be an additional nighttime concert at Jones Park.
New this year, Appleton Downtown Creates will host musicians downtown on Friday, as part of the fundraising effort from 5-8 p.m.
