NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) – The remains of a World War II Marine will be buried next weekend in Neenah.
Marine Corps Sgt. Elden W. Grimm of Menasha was identified last September.
He died in battle in 1943 at the age of 26.
In November of 1943, Grimm was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 18th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force on the small island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll of the Gilbert Islands, in an attempt to secure the island.
It took about 70 years for scientists to identify his remains.
They used dental, anthropological and chest radiograph comparison analysis.
