APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – An Appleton man was arrested Thursday afternoon after police received multiple reports of him waving around what looked like a semi-automatic handgun in public.
Police responded to City Center Plaza on N. Oneida Street around 1:00.
Several schools in the area went into lockdown as a precaution.
Police say the man, 21-year-old Dustin Bowker, had a BB gun in his possession and a long, sheathed machete on his left hip.
During questioning, Bowker told police he was carrying the BB gun because he didn’t have room for it in his bag.
Bowker was taken into custody without incident and the school lockdowns were lifted.
Police are recommending a disorderly conduct charge and three counts of bail jumping against Bowker.
