APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – An act of vandalism may leave a high school’s sports facilities unusable for the fall season.
Administration at Fox Valley Lutheran High School says their football and soccer fields suffered extensive damage after someone drove a Jeep through them in March.
“We are not able to do any spot filling and seeding” said High School Principal Steve Granberg.
The girl’s soccer team was unable to use the field this spring, and it may be the same news for football and boys soccer.
Granberg says it comes down to safety.
“There are so many ruts and so much uneven ground, we can’t have our student-athletes or opponents out there for fear of injury.”
Granberg says the Activities Director is trying to find a way to make an alternative site a home away from home.
“You know if we can find a place in which we can do all of our home contests, I think we may be able to FVL the place a little bit.”
Granberg says the issue is finding that place. He says that may include not playing every football game on a Friday night.
Administration is working on saving the fall season, but is also working to assist the Appleton Police Department to find the person responsible.
“We do want to see the person have to face the consquences. That is why we are raising our reward from $1,000 dollars to $10,000 dollars.”
The damage to the fields was estimated at $250,000.
The fields will need to be regraded and resodded or reseeded.
The sprinkler system may have also been damaged.
