GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Green Bay Washington Middle School staff members defended their school at a board meeting Monday night.
A spotlight has been on Washington for a year since a teacher outlined dangerous behavior at the school.
The nine employees speaking Monday night applauded district administrators for trying to improve the learning environment.
They also spoke of the positives in the school, including programs and attitudes.
And they were critical of the news media’s portrayal of the school.
Washington Middle School special education teacher, Ashley Sireno, tells FOX 11….
“It appears a small group of people has made negative comments about Washington Middle School or what they think Washington Middle School is like and these comments have been made into blanket statements for the rest of us. Those comments are an extreme misrepresentation of what Washington Middle School is really about.”
The district recently agreed to hire what it’s calling a “turnaround partner” to focus on the school’s academics.
And a new principal has also been hired to lead that turnaround.
