GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With the stifling weather situation Friday, many people were looking for ways to beat the heat.
Marie Dye says Friday morning was too hot to fish.
“It’s too hot. The fish aren’t going to bite when it’s over 80, and it’s just too hot,” said Marie Dye, Milwaukee.
At the Green Bay Public Works Department, employees are laboring through the heat.
Workers are allowed to wear short sleeves and mesh safety vests.
“Days like today, we just make sure that we have enough water, and we picked up some Gatorade too, for the electrolytes, for the people that are just sweating when they’re working outside,” said Chris Pirlot, Green Bay Public Works Department.
Doctors say people should drink plenty of fluids, wear light-colored clothing, or just stay inside.
There are ways to try to beat the heat. On the hot days, Green Bay public pools can see twice the number of people looking to cool off.
“My boys won a gift certificate to come here with the Brown County Library. So we thought this was a perfect day to use it, because it’s the hottest day of the year,” said Cori Frisch, Green Bay.
Back along the river Marie Dye says she has had enough.
“The fish aren’t agreeing with us at all, so I’ve only been here a couple of hours, and it’s not doing too good out here, so, I’m going to go ahead and go home,” she said.
Health officials say people should also check repeatedly on any family members or neighbors without air conditioning during these hot days.
