STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Gas prices are continuing to rise across the United States and area tourism boards are paying close attention.
In Door County, Jon Jarosh with Destination Door County says he doesn’t see it having too much of an impact on travel demand, but the type of demand might change.
“People may decide to take shorter trips closer to home,” said Jarosh. “And in that situation, Door county could possibly benefit.”
That could mean more tourists from the upper Midwest as opposed to elsewhere in the country. Jarosh says so far, tourism in Door County has been good.
“Demand for Door County has been strong early on, and looking at forecasting ahead it’s looking like it’s going to be a solid year,” Jarosh told WTAQ.
Jarosh says he doesn’t anticipate any specific activities on the Door Peninsula to be impacted by the increasing gas prices, either.
