APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Northeast Wisconsin’s Old Glory Honor Flight has a mission coming up, but will never leave the ground.
Sunday, 17 veterans of the Korean War will take a motor coach ride to Highground Veterans Memorial Park in Neillsville to tour the memorials to Wisconsin’s war veterans.
“The whole premise around it is that it’s really a sacred are for all veterans from all wars.”
Old Glory Honor Flight Executive Director Diane MacDonald…
“So, there are different parts to the park. There’s one specific to our Korean War veterans and paying homage to them and to their service.”
MacDonald says this group had been scheduled to return to Korea. Then Covid hit.
“They’re in their mid-80’s to early 90’s. So they’re slowing down a bit and this actually the perfect trip for them.”
The group will leave the Honor Flight office in Appleton at 8:30, and return around 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Public is invited to greet them then at 4650 West Spencer Street in Appleton.
Northeast Wisconsin Old Glory Honor Flight continues to plan day trip flights to Washington D.C. this year as well as several fund raisers to help cover the costs of their missions. For more information click here.
