APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Police are investigating the origin of a piece of metal that went through the windshield of a vehicle and struck a woman in the head.
Officers were dispatched to the scene around 4:30 p.m Saturday afternoon
Appleton police say it happened just before the vehicle approached the intersection of E. Calumet Street and S. Schaefer Street.
Officers on scene found a large piece of metal in the roadway that appeared to be from a vehicle.
“All of a sudden a large piece of metal debris came and struck the hood of the car and went through the windshield,” said Appleton Police Sargeant Dave Lund.
A 32-year-old female was injured in the incident. Police describe the woman’s injuries as life-threatening.
“It seems at this point that the piece of metal is probably off of a vehicle. It’s approximately 15 inches long and about 3 inches wide and probably half an inch thick,” said Lund.
