APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Some mistakes can haunt you for years, and that is especially true with social media.
That message was once again brought up after Brewer pitcher Josh Hader was questioned about offensive tweets that he made years ago, and at the High School level, it is becoming a bigger concern all the time.
Probably 90 to 95 percent of the stuff coming to my office is dealing with social media.”
Nate Werner, Activities/Athletic Director at Appleton North High School says he has to remind athletes and parents about both current and future consequences.
“I cover the use of it and how it can affect team chemistry if not used correctly.”
He says it does not stop there, and social media posts can be really harmful to those hoping to play sports in college.
“Coaches are looking at this. The first thing they do is google you when they are looking at recruiting you and seeing if they can get access to seeing what things you are posting.”
As proven with the recent situation involving Josh Hader, once it is out there, it does not go away.
“They always say the internet is written in pen and not pencil, pause before you post,” Werner added.
