FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – The mysterious yellow substance leaking into the Fond du Lac River Thursday afternoon has been identified.
Fond du Lac Fire officials say it’s road paint that came from the county’s highway garage.
A highway employee was washing out the pavement making machine when roughly 30 gallons of a water-paint mix made its way to the storm sewer.
The paint is normally washed and treated in the sanitary sewer, but it was accidentally washed into the wrong system.
Officials say the paint is organic in nature and is not harmful to the environment.
