NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) – Early loss estimates are north of $200,000 for a New London fire that destroyed one home and damaged two others.
Crews were called to W9661 Highway S around 10 pm Saturday for reports of a garage engulfed in flames.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the blaze had spread to the house, a camper, a vehicle in the driveway, and a neighboring garage.
The fire also caused siding to melt on a full-size trailer home attached to the house and on a neighbor’s house.
Officials say the blaze took roughly 3 1/2 hours to extinguish.
While the exact cause is still being investigated, it is believed the fire started in the garage.
The homeowner reportedly told responders that he was charging a battery in the garage.
Crews had to return Sunday to put out a smoldering fire on the home’s second floor.
The Red Cross is aiding those affected.
