APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A local police department has created a memorial to honor some of its officers.
Appleton Police has established a ‘Military Wall of Service’ inside its headquarters.
“We’re in a profession that’s about serving so a lot of the people that we’ve had in the past, and currently, not only served the local community, but served our country.”
Sergeant Dave Lund says the effort has been in the works for a few years.
“We’re about halfway home with the project. We’ve got approximately 115-120 officers who are represented on that with their photos.”
Lund notes the pictures, which are on display in a wall inside police headquarters, range quite a bit.
“We have 36 officers right now in our department that either have previous military experience or are currently serving in the military, but we’ve also had officers that served in the military all the way back to the Civil War.”
Lund says the community has played a huge role in the project, often providing photographs of deceased loved ones.
He encourages anyone with information about a qualifying officer to contact the department at 920-832-5500.
