WINNEBAGO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Cash bond has been set at $75,000 for a 38-year-old Oshkosh man charged with covering up a death in a home on the city’s east side.
Angel Arriaga faces felony counts of Hiding a Corpse and Bail Jumping, in connection with last week’s death of 36-year-old Trisha Baniel.
According to the criminal complaint, Arriaga and Baniel traveled to Milwaukee to purchase heroin and marijuana and then used the drugs once they got back to Arriaga’s Oshkosh home.
Later, Arraiga was reportedly ready to tell Baniel to go home but could not wake her up.
He was unable to find any Narcan, a drug that is used to counteract the effects of a heroin overdose.
The next morning, Arriaga allegedly realized Baniel was not breathing, covered her with a sheet, and locked the room that contained her body.
Arriaga reportedly told investigators he did not seek medical help because he feared legal consequences and being unable to get more drugs.
An autopsy was performed but could not determine the cause of death. Toxicology results are not expected for several weeks.
Arriaga is due back in court July 17.
