GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A ceremony was held this morning in front of the Green Bay Police Department as part of National Police Week.
The ceremony was a tribute to police both locally and across the country.
Police Chief Chris Davis thanked active police officers.
“During these difficult times in our cities and in our nation’s history, you will show up and make a positive difference,” said Davis. “Thank you for your service.”
The ceremony included a benediction, presentation of the colors, and 21-gun salute.
A memorial to Green Bay’s sole line-of-duty casualty was displayed in front of the Community Law Enforcement Memorial. Officer George Motquin was a 36 year old officer who was struck and killed by a drunk driver when walking home from his beat in December of 1951. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office has lost two deputies in the line of duty, including Sgt. Wayne Truttman, who was shot by a suspect in 1973, and Deputy Sheriff Raymond Wenner, who was killed in a 1945 motorcycle crash.
