APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A stop in Northeast Wisconsin was included in Governor Scott Walker’s Friday schedule as he travels the state to promote the newly-signed Foxconn deal.
Walker’s itinerary also included events in Wausau, Eau Claire, and La Crosse.
The governor says the goal is to begin construction on the 20,000,000 square foot facility in 2018, with a completion date in 2020.
Foxconn plans to make the liquid crystal display monitors that are used for computers and televisions at a new $10,000,000,000 manufacturing facility.
While the location has not been finalized, officials are reportedly looking at sites in Racine and Kenosha counties.
Foxconn’s new facility is expected to create an initial 3,000 jobs, with a chance of that increasing to 13,000 over time.
If the company makes good on its investment and job creation goals, Walker has proposed providing a $3,000,000,000 tax incentive package over a 15 year period.
Walker has called a special session in August, with hopes of getting the necessary legislative approval.
