UNDATED (WTAQ) – Expect extra patrols throughout northeast Wisconsin roads, as travelers gear up for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.
Mike Panosh with the Wisconsin State Patrol says they will be watching for drunk drivers as well as other offenders.
“Every minute of the holiday weekend we’ll have officers somewhere enforcing all sorts of traffic violations but certainly alcohol is always a high priority on any of these holiday weekends.”
Special details will be placed in Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
“We have there what’s called “high visibility enforcement and education” so, not only will officers be on the road but they will also be, prior to the deployment, going into taverns and bars to educate servers about our effort,” says Panosh.
He says the best advice is to slow down, buckle up, and drive sober.
“All we want is for people to get to and where they’re going safely. We enjoy the holiday weekend as much as anyone else does and all we’re asking is for people to do things the right way.”
There were 11 traffic fatalities in Wisconsin during the Memorial Day weekend last year.
