APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Sheriff’s officials in Outagamie County say an inmate was rushed to the hospital following a suicide attempt.
Corrections officers found the 26-year-old man at 10:36 p.m. Wednesday during a routine check. Authorities say he tried to hang himself with a bedsheet while alone in his cell.
Jail employees provided medical care immediately, and paramedics were called in to help. The man had a pulse, but his breathing was labored.
Sheriff’s officials say the man had been observed 16 minutes before the attempt.
The man was jailed May 17 on a probation hold. According to jail records, he had been booked into the jail 15 times since 2007.
Sheriff’s officials did not know what the man’s prognosis was and his name has not been released.
