APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – The band from Appleton East High School is headed to Washington D.C. this weekend.
They’ll be playing in the National Memorial Day Parade.
Wisconsin Congressman, Reid Ribble, nominated the band to make the trip.
The students are also one of only two bands chosen to perform during the parade’s opening ceremony.
The group has been practicing for weeks.
It will perform “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “On Wisconsin.”
Band director, Margaret LaFleur, says she’s proud of her students.
“It’s a tremendous honor. The students have been working for months, every weekend, practicing. They’ve really poured their heart and soul into this” The students look wonderful, they sound wonderful. They just do a tremendous job.”
The parade will start at 1:00 p.m. on Monday.
You can watch it live on Military.com.
