APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A suspect in an Appleton burglary had to be rescued by several police agencies after jumping into the Fox River trying to get away.
Appleton police were called to a home in the 1700 block of W. Reid Drive for a burglary in progress. Witnesses told officers that they saw smashed out windows at the home.
The suspect ran from the backdoor of the home and headed for the Fox River, police say.
Officers were able to find the man, but then he jumped into the Fox River.
The suspect, identified as a 26-year-old homeless man, was pulled from the water near Lutz Park and took him to a hospital to be checked out. He was then taken into custody.
He’s being held in the Outagamie County jail on a warrant charge.
The Appleton Police Department is continuing its investigation into the burglary.
