GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The wildfire danger is increasing in Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wildfire Prevention specialist, Catherine Koele says things have gotten worse since last week.
“The northern two thirds of the state is hovering around high to very high fire danger,” said Koele. “We’ve had some very nice warm and sunny days that have dried out our fuels.”
While rain would certainly help, Koele says it’s not something that can be relied on right now.
“There are some chances of precipitation, but we have this high pressure system that is really pushing any real chance of precipitation out of the area,” said Koele.
Koele says more than 70 wildfires occurred over the weekend, making it the busiest weekend of the season so far.
