APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton police are releasing more information about the victims involved a fire at a halfway house on Division Street Wednesday morning.
The fire claimed the life of a 24-year-old resident who police identified as Milo G. Huempfner of Green Bay. Investigators say they’re awaiting autopsy and toxicology results to determine the cause of death.
A man taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation was identified as a 55-year-old Appleton man, who is an employee of the group home. He was treated and released from the hospital later Wednesday.
“He came from one of the other nearby residences, went into the residence that was on fire to see if he could locate anyone and make sure everyone was out,” says Sgt. Dave Lund of the Appleton Police Department. “It was during that time that he was overcome by smoke.”
The 911 call was made at 6:12 a.m. Wednesday by an overnight employee of the house.
Investigators say that all of the individuals and employees at the home have been accounted for. The damage is estimated to be $10,000.
Authorities have not said what sparked the fire or even where it originated in the house.
