FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — No one was injured in a porch fire Sunday morning.
Around 10:27 a.m., Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue was sent to a home on West Scott Street for a report of a fire.
Upon arrival, FDLFR says the residents of the home were trying to extinguish the flames.
Firefighters were able to overhaul the area to make sure that the fire was out.
A large portion of the front porch was damaged by the flames.
Investigators determined the cause of the fire to be improperly discarded smoking materials in the front of the porch.
FDLFR says that if a passing motorist hadn’t detected the fire, the outcome could have been much more devastating to the residents of the home.
Firefighters remind the community that the only safe way to discard smoking materials is in an appropriate fire-proof receptacle.
