GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A public opinion poll on local policing was published this week.
The report from the Wisconsin Professional Police Association’s surveys findings strongly suggests public support for law enforcement is ticking back up, after a small dip during the nationwide protests and the COVID-19 pandemic. Jim Palmer with the group says it did show that people think that police use of force was a problem.
“It does seem that a majority of both white and non-white respondents believe that police violence is a problem,” said Palmer. “There was a larger portion of non-white respondents felt that way.”
But, nearly 80% of Wisconsinites of all races said they approve of the way local police handle their job.
“This data stands in stark contrast to some of the representations we see when these issues arise,” Palmer told WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’.
The majority of people, of all races, want to see police well-funded in their communities and do not support defunding law enforcement, according to the survey. You can read it here.
