APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A man in Appleton is asking that police officers and the community work together and support each other following a violent week nationwide.
The Appleton Police Department wrote on its Facebook page that they received a letter from the resident on Monday.
The unnamed man felt the entire community would benefit from reading his life experiences about growing up in a Tennessee community where he says black people and law enforcement officers feared each other.
He says he’s lived in Appleton for almost 3 years and does not want to see the city fall into the same cycle of racial tension as other cities around the country.
The letter comes after the death of two black men by police; one in Louisiana and the other in Minnesota.
In retaliation, a man shot and killed five Dallas cops days later while they were standing guard during a protest of the killings in Louisiana and Minnesota.
