CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) — The 14-year-old boy suspected of sexually assaulting and killing Lily Peters of Chippewa Falls returned to court today but still has not been identified.
The boy faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide and sexual assault of a minor. Investigators say he had planned to rape and kill the girl “from the get-go,” and did so shortly after she left her aunt’s home in Chippewa Falls to return to her home Sunday night April 24th.
Peters was reported missing by her father when she didn’t arrive home after 9 PM that day. Her bike was found later that evening, and officers say her body was found shortly after 9 AM the next day.
The boy’s name has not been released. At this time he is only being identified by his initials C.P.B. Thursday’s appearance was a review hearing which focused mainly on public and media access to the criminal complaint against him.
C.P.B’s defense team argued that the complaint should remain sealed until they have had time to digest it, but the judge said he does intend on having the details be released soon, though names and other personal identifiers of juvenile witnesses that have been part of the investigation will be redacted.
Should the case remain in adult court C.P.B faces up to life in prison with only the possibility of parole to be discussed. He returns to court June 24th.
