ALGOMA, WI (WTAQ) – A summer problem is back on the Lakeshore.
As people enjoy Crescent Beach, a group of seagulls are slowly gathering.
Sara Robertson is Algoma Parks and Recreation Director…she says there’s lots of food opportunities for the seagulls.
“we don’t want the large congregation of birds because of the health hazards they pose to the public on the beach and the water quality”
But thanks to Great Lakes Avian Pest Control owner Jeff Schukow and his remote control fox, the problem is shrinking.
He says the birds are more frighten by the remote control fox, because it acts like a natural predator.
“it’s not good to have all those droppings in the beach sand anyway, if you’re walking barefoot in it. and, they carry a lot of diseases”
Robertson say beach goers should not feed the seagulls, and throw away any trash to help keep the seagull problem in check.
