MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ) – A man police say is a “significant” heroin source in Manitowoc County has been arrested.
Police say 28-year-old Frederick Smith met with undercover officers and delivered cocaine in May, and then began supplying large amounts of heroin during the controlled purchases.
On Wednesday evening, police say investigators arranged to purchase about two and a half ounces of heroin from Smith.
Police say Smith arrived to the purchase and officers attempted to take him into custody. Smith ran away, but was caught a short time later.
Officers say Smith threw the heroin into a field, and it was later found by a Manitowoc K-9.
Investigators say overall they seized over a ¼ pound of heroin from Smith during the investigation. It had a street value of about $30,000.
Police say they will refer charges of multiple heroin and cocaine delivery as a repeat offender to the Manitowoc County District Attorney’s Office.
Smith will make his first court appearance on Thursday.
