KANSAS CITY, MO (WTAQ-WLUK) – Garland Nelson pleaded not guilty Tuesday to federal fraud charges related to business dealings with two Shawano County brothers, before he allegedly killed them.
Nelson is charged in Missouri state court for allegedly killing Nick and Justin Diemel in 2019 and hiding their bodies.
Federal prosecutors added fraud charges. A Sept. 26 trial date was set in court Tuesday, court records show.
Garland Nelson allegedly killed Nick and Justin Diemel, who went to Nelson’s farm in northwestern Missouri related to the cattle business. Court documents allege Nelson fatally shot the brothers who came to collect a $250,000 check. Trial in that case is set for Feb. 6.
In addition to the state charges for the murders, Nelson faces mail fraud charges in federal court. An Aug. 22 trial was planned but the defense asked for a delay.
