Left hander Eric Lauer matched a Brewers franchise record by striking out 13 Phillies over six scoreless innings as Milwaukee took the rubber game of the weekend series at Citizen Bank Ballpark 1-0 on Sunday night. Lauer allowed 5 hits and got in trouble in the 5th working out of a bases loaded jam with what else, a strikeout. He said afterwards it might have been the best command of his fastball in his career. The Brewers never got the offense going against Aaron Nola and the Philly bullpen either as they were held to just one hit until the 9th.
Jace Peterson led off with a single against former Brewer closer Corey Knebel and raced to third on another hit from Andrew McCutcheon. Christian Yelich then lofted a fly ball to left and Peterson scored on the sacrifice fly.
Josh Hader came on for the bottom half and retired the Phillies in order for his 8th save of the season.
The Brewers dropped the opener Friday night 4-2, giving up three runs in the 8th but they bounced back with a 5-3 win behind Adrian Houser on Saturday. The series win gets the Crew to 10-6 and now they start this week with a scheduling quirk. When the owners lockout was resolved only after wiping out the first week of the regular season, the lost games were fitted into the schedule wherever MLB could find openings. The Brewers will host the San Francisco Giants Monday afternoon and then turn around and go right back to Pennsylvania to take on the Pirates in a three game series in Pittsburgh. Milwaukee will send Corbin Burnes to the mound in the one and one homestand. Pre-game coverage begins at 4:35 PM with the first pitch at 5:10 PM on WNFL.
