GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Green Bay man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a shooting early Wednesday morning in Green Bay.
Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Cherry Street just after 1 a.m. for a disturbance involving an unknown number of people in the street.
It was reported that one possible gunshot was heard and upon arrival, officers observed signs of a disturbance in the street.
“They were able to detain a male, 27-year-old Donavan Mitchell, who even admitted that he was part of the disturbance”, said Police Captain Kevin Warych.
As the investigation continued, officers spoke with witnesses and located what appears to be a bullet hole in a home in the 1100 block of Cherry Street.
Officers secured the immediate area and began a crime scene investigation.
Investigators were able to determine that Mr. Mitchell was more involved in the disturbance and believed he was responsible for the shooting.
Additionally, two guns were recovered in the investigation, one of which investigators believe was used in the shooting.
Mr. Mitchel is in custody and charges are being referred to the Brown County District Attorney.
Those charges include Felon in possession of a firearm, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, Possession of marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
No injuries were reported and investigators are working to determine who the intended target was and or why the specific house was shot.
Warych says this incident is similar to other shootings that have taken place in the city recently.
“All of the people involved in these incidents are all associates of one another.”
He added that the incident being targeted does not make the situation less serious.
“At this point, we have an innocent citizen who has a bullet hole in the front of their home.”
He says, even though there have been multiple shooting incidents since May, these incidents should not define the city of Green Bay.
“Green Bay is safe, and the crime that we are seeing, we are tracking.”
Warych added most of the shootings are a targeted act of retaliation or are drug-related.”
