GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – There is some confusion among travelers regarding the public transit mask mandate across the country.
The mandate was struck down by a federal judge on Monday, but the CDC has now appealed the decision. So where does that leave people on planes, trains, and buses?
“There is some confusion as far as the communication coming out, but at this point the mask mandate is still not being enforced,” said Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport Director Marty Piette. “There’s been no direction from either the White House or the TSA otherwise, so still no mask being required, just voluntary.”
No matter which way the appeal eventually goes, Piette doesn’t expect anything to actually change from this point forward.
“It’s not likely that it would’ve come back come before the original mask mandate would have expired on May 3rd anyway. I think it’s just a move to ensure that the CDC still has the authority to implement a mask mandate if things do end up spiraling out of control again in the future,” Piette told WTAQ News. “Masks are voluntary, entirely voluntary, and we’ll see people still wearing them and that’s perfectly okay. It’s everybody’s individual choice at this point.”
Piette says they’ll continue handing out masks at the entrances to the terminal building until their supply runs out.
