NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) – Neenah Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Main Street on Monday afternoon after receiving a report of an individual shooting a round at another individual inside an apartment.
Officers were able to escort all citizens out of harm’s way and the SWAT team was called after the suspected barricaded himself inside the building.
Neenah Police Officer Stuart Zuehls explains the difficulty that this location presented.
“600 block Main Street is two eastbound lanes and two westbound lanes, so there was quite a bit of traffic,” he explains.
After 90 minutes the suspect surrendered and will be transported to Winnebago County Jail.
The incident resulted in no citizen injuries.
Neenah Police is thankful for extra law enforcement that assisted in the incident, but also for another group that cooperated.
“The public was amazing at understanding,” says Officer Zuehls. “They trusted us.”
Officer Zuehls says the important thing to understand going forward is that this was an isolated incident.
“If you live across the street, if you live next door, please do not be worried,” he says. “The suspect is in jail so you do not have to be worried.”
The Neenah Police Department Investigative Unit is in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the property and the incident is currently under investigation.
