Milwaukee Brewers
Christian Yelich picked a good time to hit his first home run of the season. His long ball came with the bases loaded and the grand slam capped a five run fourth inning as Milwaukee went on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1 in the series opener at American Family Field Monday night.
The Brewers struck in the first when Kolton Wong raced home on a wild pitch. The Pirates got even when Diego Castillo hit a solo home run off starter Eric Lauer in the top of the 4th. Milwaukee answered right back with Wong delivering a go ahead RBI before the bases filled and were cleared by Yelich who took Zach Thompson over the right field wall.
Lauer picked up the win, working six innings, allowing the one run on five hits with five strikeouts. Milwaukee got three scoreless innings of relief from Jandel Gustave, Hoby Milner and Jose Urena to improve to 6-5 on the season. The Brewers will send Corbin Burnes to the mound in game two Tuesday night against J.T. Brubaker. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:05 PM on WTAQ.
