GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – After 18 months of work, CP in Green Bay celebrated a ribbon cutting for their new expansion.
The added space increases CP’s physical footprint from 46,000 sq. ft. to just under 68,000 sq. ft.
“It feels a little surreal quite frankly to get this thing across the finish line,” said Jon Syndergaard, Executive Director.
This growth allows CP to expand all of its programs and service areas, but it took a while to get it all done.
112,400 pounds of steel, almost a mile of bar joist that holds up the roof and over 750,000 fasteners, bolts and screws in the project done by Keller.
Syndergaard said they did not have a place to put clients when the work was being done, so the expansion was done around them.
“We literally had clients and staff with sawdust falling on their heads, and I can’t tell you just how patient they have been.”
For the clients, it was a challenge at times.
“I am very excited that this project is done,” said one client. “It was very frustrating at times.”
Syndergaard said they just did not have enough space to do what they wanted to.
“Now for the first time in many many years, we will be able to meet the demands of the community”
That will help them reach more people.
“We were having to put people on waiting lists or turn people away so the fact that we will be able to accommodate people now is a blessing.”
CP serves about 21,000 families each year. CP reaches out all throughout Northeast Wisconsin providing adult day services which include skills training for adults with a variety of physical and developmental disabilities.
CP also provides therapy services and a continuum of care as well as Early Education and care for children who are encouraged to interact with peers, make new friends and learn about each other.
