GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s a special opportunity for Green Bay residents after a particularly strong storm.
Following heavy rain and strong winds on Monday night the Green Bay Department of Public Works will be offering free bulk waste collection for those impacted by the storm.
“We have not done this before,” says Public Works Director Steve Grenier.
The overall goal is to help those that were hit the hardest.
“We’re trying to do right by the taxpayer,” he says.
The department is emphasizing that this isn’t an opportunity to toss unwanted junk, but rather is reserved for items directly affected by Monday’s storm.
“Our staff is pretty good at being able to look at something and see whether or not there’s been water damage to it,” says Grenier.
There has been a bulk collection in the past, but this is a separate effort from that action.
“This is in direct response to the amount of rain that we had and the widespread reports that we got of property damage due to flooding,” he explains.
Items affected by the storm can be brought to free drop off locations located on the east side on Mills Street and the west side on South Oneida Street, in addition to the available curbside collection.
The curbside collection will be available through September 25.
The east side location is at 1820 Mills Street and the west side location is at 519 S. Oneida Street.
