APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A school on the south side of Appleton was put on lockdown for a precautionary measure Thursday.
Police say they took a possibly armed man into custody.
Appleton officers attempted to make contact with an individual related to an on-going criminal investigation.
Police say the suspect fled in a vehicle and struck vehicles at the intersection of Southwood Drive and Valley Road, before fleeing from his vehicle.
Contact was made with nearby schools since the suspect was believed to be armed and dangerous.
Police were able to take a 27-year-old male into custody. It was determined that the man was wanted by the Department of Corrections.
Stephen Foster Elementary Administration confirmed that the lockdown was lifted at 11:36 a.m.
The school was on lockdown for about an hour and everyone is safe.
