FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Despite having a plea deal in place to avoid trial, a woman charged in connection with a high-speed chase and standoff with officers – with a 5-month-old child in the car – did not show up in court Tuesday, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Paulina Meshiguad, 31, is charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and eluding police for the March 9, 2021 incident.
Tuesday’s hearing was scheduled to confirm the details of a plea agreement. Instead, the arrest warrant was issued, court records show.
The driver in the case, Louis Stone, pleaded guilty in January to four charges, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and fleeing police, but was then found not guilty by reason of mental disease, court records show. That means it was determined he couldn’t discern right from wrong at the time of the incident, and is not being held criminally liable.
Stone allegedly took off after police tried to pull him over for going 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Eventually, he stopped in Dodge County and a standoff ensued. Meshiguad was a passenger in the vehicle and told police she was trying to get Stone to pull over — but Stone said she was acting as a navigator during the chase.
