KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ) – A 22-year-old Kaukauna woman has been arrested following a Thursday night fire at an apartment over a Kaukauna business.
Kendra VandenBloomer faces one count of felony Arson.
Fire officials arrived at the residence over Benchwarmers Bar and Grill around 10:30 p.m.
Everyone in the apartment and business had to be evacuated.
No one was injured, and the fire was extinguished quickly.
No damage was done to the bar and grill.
However, the apartment received an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Assistant Fire Chief Don Grindheim explains how investigators determined the fire was suspicious in nature.
“We were looking at four separate areas of ignition in the residence. The police department detained the resident, the 22-year-old female, and questioned her. She ended up confessing to starting the fires.”
The criminal complaint says VandenBloomer told officers she had gotten into an argument with the bar owner earlier that day.
VandenBloomer allegedly told investigators she was playing with the stove and lighting the boxes to microwavable dinners on fire, before throwing the boxes on the floor.
She also reportedly lit a bed pillow on fire and threw it on the living room floor.
Cash bond has been set at $35,000.
