APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – There were likely be plenty of sirens coming from Appleton International Airport Saturday morning.
Airport Spokesman Patrick Tracey says they’re conducting a federally-mandated emergency preparedness drill.
This year, Tracey notes they are simulating an aircraft accident on the runway.
“We’re practicing the emergency response to rescue the passengers on the aircraft, bringing the passengers back into the airport terminal, and creating a safe and secure envionment for the airline passengers to be reunited with their family and friends.”
Tracey says quite a few community agencies will take part.
“We’ll have about 15 area emergency responders at the airport. Anyone that’s near the airport will see dozens of firetrucks, helicopters. It will look like there’s an emergency.”
The drill is scheduled to run from 8:30-10:30 am.
Tracey notes it will not affect any of the regularly-scheduled flights.
