GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Local conservatives are feeling pretty good after Tuesday’s election, and it’s not just about the results.
After three straight elections with issues and raised eyebrows in Green Bay, Republican Party of Brown County Chairman Jim Fitzgerald has some confidence restored in the system after last night.
“I thought the election went well. There were a few little glitches along the way, but we managed to work with our partners and work through those glitches,” Fitzgerald told WTAQ News. “We’re really, really excited about the outcome tonight…Those folks did a good job tonight – that were conservatives.”
Four of five new Green Bay city council members come from the group that was backed by outside money through independent expenditures from the conservative Restoration PAC.
“You can call them non-partisan races, but obviously, everybody has their own opinions, their own beliefs, and their own values,” Fitzgerald said.
But he says despite the money, the people elected simply wanted to create change in their own communities.
“You can’t underestimate the power of we the people…The values expressed tonight were from a group of candidates who wanted to take back their local government – from the school board to the city councils to the village boards to the county board!” Fitzgerald said. “They wanted to take back their local government, and they feel they got a great start. Now it’s on to the fall and recapturing our state government.”
The primary is August 9th. The general election is November 8th.
