APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A Fire Station’s remodel is underway thanks to a caring teacher.
Appleton Fire Station Number 3 is in need of a little TLC. That observation was made by Riverview Lutheran Elementary teacher Melissa Brown when her class toured the station
“She was a little bit surprised about how some of the amenities for the firefighters were a little bit dated,” said Chad Doran, City Spokesman.
“They should be coming to a place that is homey and wonderful when they can’t be at their own place,” Brown said Tuesday.
She says that was not the case, so she helped make a more than $13,000 dollar grant from Home Depot happen and on Tuesday, the prep work on the kitchen dining room and bathroom began.
Chad Doran City Spokesman said the changes will benefit those who use it.
“It is used 24-7 all around the clock every day of the year by our crews. Someone is in the kitchen all day.”
New appliances and furniture are expected to arrive next week.
Between 50 and 60 workers were on hand Tuesday along with Riverview Lutheran School students.
