OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A local school has launched an ‘Honors College.’
UW-Oshkosh’s fifth college, for which the sign was unveiled Wednesday, is designed to enhance more research-based curriculum.
Students will be required to engage in high impact, faculty-mentored research to graduate from the college.
Chancellor Andrew Leavitt notes Honors College students will be able to take classes in any of the school’s four existing colleges: business, nursing, letters and science, or education and human services.
“Many of these students have wonderful choices. They can go anywhere they want. They can go to private school. They can go to public school. In my estimation, a great honors college provides a private-school-like environment for those students who choose to be a part of it.”
School officials believe the Honors College will help them in recruiting future students.
Honors courses will account for 20% of a student’s degree requirements, for those pursuing that path.
