GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – March of 2022 was the wettest March on record in the Green Bay area.
“Green Bay received 6.03 inches of liquid precip. That includes everything from rain that was falling, any mixed precipitation, or snow that melted down,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Kira Jesse. “This was the wettest March that we have on record for Green Bay. That dates back to the late 1800’s…The record it beat was from 1888, when we had a 5.69 inches.”
March of 2020 is ranked fifth, with just over four inches of precipitation.
Jesse says they tend to look more at seasons, rather than specific months. But she admits, it’s still cool to see a month break a precipitation record. Especially when a majority of the precipitation fell on just three days.
“A majority of that just fell on three specific days from various systems coming through, and we had some drier stretches in between there as well,” Jesse told WTAQ News. “So on [March] 5th, we received 1.79 inches. Almost a third of all of our monthly precipitation came from that one day.”
So what’s going to happen with the supposed April showers bringing May flowers?
“The climate prediction center does have us at an above normal chance of seeing higher than normal precipitation,” Jesse said. “At least over the next week we still have several systems that are gonna come through and continue to bring us some liquid precip in the form of rain a little snow.”
That prediction shows precipitation levels falling back towards normal in the middle of April.
