FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – It will be a third-term in Congress for Republican Representative Glenn Grothman as he was re-elected in the 6th congressional district.
That district has long been in the hands of the GOP since the 1960s.
The victory celebration for Grothman and supporters were at the Knights of Colombus in Fond du Lac.
Speaking after his win, Grothman highlighted some goals for his next term.
“Demanding law-abiding on immigration,” says Grothman. “Hopefully solving the health care problem, there are so many people out there 59, 61, 62-years-old just paying a huge amount for health insurance.”
He also mentioned what else will be a major focus for him in the next two years.
“Dealing with the welfare problem,” he says. “I think [it] is part of the problem with the economy and leading to the breakdown of the family.”
Going back to stints in the state assembly and state senate, Grothman has never lost an election in his 24 years affiliated with Wisconsin politics.
Grothman was challenged by Democrat Dan Kohl, who is the nephew of former Senator Herb Kohl.
Kohl released a statement congratulating him on the victory Tuesday night.
“I congratulate Glenn Grothman on his reelection. While this is not the outcome we hoped for, I am optimistic because of the energy, enthusiasm, and compassion I have seen from people across the 6th District over the last year and a half. I know the people of this district will continue to speak out for their neighbors, their families, and their friends, and I am confident that we will all continue to fight for the kind of country we want our children to grow up in – a country where every American can get quality, affordable health care and where our representatives put people before politics and country before party.
I am grateful to the incredible volunteers who have been on the front lines of this campaign for more than a year. From knocking on doors to making phone calls to organizing, you showed what it means to stand up for your community and fight for what you believe in. Thank you.”
